So what's it all about? Really...?
A little over a month ago I saw the new Star Wars movie and it reminded me of watching the other ones when I was a kid which started me thinking about the good side, the bad side, and the meaning of life. I've always been a seeker, a sort of theoso-philosophical sort of pug dog chasing my spiritual tail around on the carpet. We (the Hullaballoo Staff) had just finished the now infamous sex issue and were trying to come up with a theme for the next issue and I quit chasing my tail long enough to pipe up "How about the meaning of life?" We'd done art and sex at that point and the meaning of life seemed to be the next logical step. My mind at the time was brimming with ideas about spirituality, The Force, Taoism, pseudo-mystical self improvement, etc. My fellow staffers kind of shrugged but as time passed, as if by default, the meaning of life became the theme of the issue you hold before you. Promptly, my spinning mind blew a head gasket and I could not for the life of me find any meaning at all in this odd experience we here on planet earth like to refer to as life. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

As it turns out, my input was unnecessary; our growing list of contributors stepped to the forefront and came to our aid. But since there's no rest for the terminally confused (i.e. me), here I am writing the introduction to Hullaballoo Issue # 4 : The Meaning of Life.

(Insert your favorite fanfare here).

We begin with the sad (but true) story of the life of Amy and end with the comic drama of the life of Kristin. We will traverse the miraculous but vicious cycle of life and search for meaning on the streets of the city. We will see things and read words that might just make us say "Why am I here?" (The answer to that question, by the way is that we are here to ask the question "Why am I here?). And for those of you who still have the paper dolls from the Sex Issue, we bring you new outfits to dress your little doll slaves in as you ponder the imponderable and eff the ineffable (you can still get the Sex Issue; see the last page for details).

We also are giddy with delight to announce that Hullaballoo is starting it's own Website at hullaballoo.iwarp.com. It will be up as soon as we figure out what we're doing (we're still cooling our heels after this whole soul searching meaning of life thing *Shudder*).

Before I release you to your own soul searching, I'd like to remind you that in this crazy little thing called life, nothing is free. Oh sure, we put free on the cover of each issue but there is a price. We'd like to hear from you. So if you like Hullaballoo (or despise it for that matter) write to us and let us know. Our address is:

Hullaballoo
207 South Union St. #4
Burlington VT 05401

Or send e-mail to editors@hullaballoo.iwarp.com.

Rants ,raves, reviews, poetry, fiction, letters, large sums of cash; we'll take it all.

And now I turn you over to Beth and her amazing, trained circus of observations about the meaning of life.
